According to the regulations, foreigners who lose their passports should apply to the Exit and Entry Administration department of the local public security organ for a passport loss report certificate, which is valid for one month. At the same time, the applicant should apply for a new passport from the embassy or consulate of his/her country in China, and apply for a visa with the new passport and the passport loss report certificate to the Exit and Entry Administration department of the local public security organ. The public security organ will issue a visa or residence permit for the applicant within 5 working days. Foreigners who are really unable to apply for a new passport in China and need to leave the country urgently may apply to the Exit and Entry Administration department of the public security organ for an Exit and Entry Permit for Foreigners.
