赤坎，是广东著名的侨乡，有600多座骑楼和碉楼，浓缩了百年前几代华侨的心血、辉煌及梦想，也是岭南骑楼的精华和巨擘。
Chikan is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong, known for its more than 600 arcade houses and watchtowers. These structures encapsulate the hard work, glory, and dreams of several generations of overseas Chinese, and represent the essence and grandeur of Lingnan-style arcade houses.
华侨们即便在发迹之后时刻心系的，仍是家乡故土。他们把看到的全世界最美的景致，全部都搬回了家，所以今天的我们才得以看到英国城堡风格的碉楼、古罗马式的穹顶、中式飞檐的戏楼，看到司徒氏的诊所，关家的碉楼、大宗祠和图书馆。
Even after becoming successful, the overseas Chinese never stopped thinking about their hometown. They brought back the most beautiful landscapes from around the world, so today we can still see watchtowers in the style of British castles, domed roofs in the Roman tradition, opera houses with traditional Chinese flying eaves, the Sitou family's clinic, the Guan family's watchtower, ancestral halls, and libraries.
他们像是飞在海外的风筝，但永远有一根系着故乡的线，一辈子都在不断地追寻确认“我从哪里来”。这一瞬，突然能明白中国人都在说的那句“落叶归根”，在赤坎小镇上，那一座座伫立着的看似“魔幻”的建筑，不就是“华侨精神”最具象的表达吗？
