四六级翻译：文化个性的变通   语言与文化密不可分，语言是文化的载体，它承载着大量的文化信息，因此，文化翻译尤为重要。不同文化背景中的民族有着不同的思维定式和社会心态，看待事物的角度有所差异，在翻译时，要对不同的文化意义及其形象进行变通翻译，以符合译入语的文化特点及语言规范。比如： 原文：He returned to his hometown from Beijing after graduation and found a job as a middle school teacher, for he believed the saying, “Better be the head of a dog than the tail of a lion． 如果将原文中的谚语Better be the head of a dog than the tail of a lion直译的话，译文读者则不知所云，所以，套用汉语的“宁做鸡头，不做凤尾”，能完全表达原文的意思。 译文：他信奉“宁做鸡头，不做凤尾”，因此，大学毕业后从北京回到了家乡，找了份教师的工作。 再看一个例子： 原文：It was diamond cut diamond when the two men met because they were both so sure that their own ideas were right. 译文：这两个人都坚信自己的主张正确，因此他们相遇定是一场棋逢对手的酣战。 众所周知，金刚石坚硬，diamond cut diamond指的是两人在机智，灵巧方面进行较量而不相上下，其字面意思会使我们很自然的联想起汉语成语“棋逢对手，势均力敌”，意义接近，因此翻译可以进行变通。
