After the last slot under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility) “Jie” brand fell to SAIC Group, uncertainty loomed over GAC’s cooperation with Huawei. But the appointment of former GAC Trumpchi Deputy General Manager Liu Jiaming as CEO of Qijing Auto has put the partnership on a fast track.
Amid an industry-wide obsession with Huawei, GAC relaunched its partnership with the tech giant, from the establishment of HUAWEI x GAC’s “HuaWang Auto” to the debut of the Qijing brand. This also meant a major adjustment to the “Panyu Action,” a three-year plan originally designed to reshape GAC Aion and Trumpchi.
Whether Qijing can revive GAC’s glory in independent brands remains to be seen. For now, the company must find breakthroughs in an increasingly crowded market—something Huawei alone cannot guarantee.
