名词favour是考试中常常考到的词，现就其常用意思及常被考到的三个短语举例说明。
1.favour有“好感，喜爱；赞同，支持；恩惠，好事”三个意思。需要注意的是当自己给别人帮助时，一般不用favor。比如：
It remains to be seen if the show will find favour with an audience.这场演出是否将获得观众喜爱还要拭目以待。Those present were in favour of change.在座的人都赞成变革。On the whole, I'm in favour of the idea.大体说来，我赞成这个想法。
Could you do me a favour and pick up Sam from school today?今天你能帮我个忙去学校接萨姆吗？Can I ask a favour ?请帮个忙行吗？I would never ask for any favours from her.我再也不会请她帮任何忙了。I'm going as a favour to Ann, not because I want to.我去是给安一个面子，而不是我想去。
2. do sb.a favor 或do a favor for sb.指“帮忙”。比如： Do me a favor and turn off that radio.帮个忙，把那个收音机关上吧。I've come to ask you to do me a favour.我是来请你帮我一个忙的。
3.in favor of这个介词短语作表语时，意思为“赞成，作主张，决定要”，但当“以……代替”讲时，常做状语。比如：
I wouldn't be in favour of income tax cuts.我不会支持削减所得税。Many people are in favor of freedom in speech.很多人赞同言论自由。I'm all in favour of equal pay for equal work.我完全支持同工同酬。
Price control would gradually disappear in favor of a free market.价格控制将逐步取消，取而代之的是自由贸易。He argued in favour of a strike.他据理力争主张罢工
4. in sb's favour指“有利于某人；有助于某人”。比如：
The exchange rate is in our favour at the moment.目前汇率对我们有利。She was willing to bend the rules in Mary's favour.她愿意放宽规定以有利于玛丽。
The protection that farmers have enjoyed amounts to a bias in favour of the countryside.农民们享受到的保护几乎就是对农村有利的一种偏袒。
